The Victims Of The Enemy

Satan and his demons are the enemies and men are their victims. It may be a bit easier for us to love sinful men if we remember that Satan and his demons are permanent enemies but sinful men might only be temporary enemies and might actually become allies. It can be helpful to remember that we too were once in the snare of the Devil.

2 Timothy 2:24-26: And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Colossians 1:21: And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.

Matthew 5:44: But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

We should not battle against our temporary enemies in the same fashion as against our permanent enemies. We should battle AGAINST our permanent enemies but we should battle FOR our temporary enemies.

We can strike blows against our eternal unseen enemies only by spiritual means. We can give temporary visible enemies The Word of God, the Bible. We can pray for them. We can share the gospel with them. We can help free them from the snares of the Devil. We can love them. We have weapons with which to fight these enemies, the Bible, our prayers and our submission to God and our resistance of the Devil.

James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
